About

When you let words and media play and dance, anything can happen! Explore how universal yet unique human feelings and ideas can be. Come and spend some time with us at this interactive workshop.

In the first half of the workshop you will engage in wordsmithing and dive deep into meaning making. In the second portion of the workshop, you will explore different mobile photo and video editing apps to explore and create layers of visual media which can enhance your writing and interpret your ideas in a completely new way.

Please come with a set of poems or your own writing. If you are a beginner and would like to try some writing or don't have your work with you, don't worry, we will have some material you can work with to create a found poem. If you are interested in using apps for multimedia creation, please bring either your cell phone or iPad and tablet and charger. The apps we are going to use are available for both iOS and Android devices. If you have digital photos of your own, please bring them, if not, there are downloadable resources you can use on the Community Resources page at RiverRevery.ca.

Bring a friend to play together and create collaborative work. And, don't forget your imagination!

You will leave this workshop with inspiration and smiles.

Independent artists, Natasha Boskic and Mary McDonald

Media artist Mary McDonald and poet Natasha Boskic collaborated on a poetry film “On the Margin of History,” and Augmented Reality (AR) installation. They have been widely exhibited in Canada and internationally, featured in the ‘Fortress of Peace’, the fourth programme platform of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’. Other presentations include screenings of the poetry film for Peripheries, media arts exhibit at the Glucksman Gallery in Cork, Ireland, exhibition of the AR installation in Porto, Portugal at Media Arts Festival, presentation at the MIX Experiential Storytelling conference and publication in the international journal, Zetmag.net. The interactive AR installation was awarded first prize for Digital, Performative and New Media Art, at Surrey Art Gallery, BC in June, 2019.

We invite communal investigation of displacement through co-creation of an Augmented Reality installation at Word Vancouver on September 29th. Come and become part of the big narrative of Canada.
