About

For the 2019 Canada Culture Days, Kelowna Taiwanese Cultural Society is hosting a movie featuring Long Time No Sea, a Taiwanese Indigenous movie.

The film was adapted from a real story, describing a little indigenous boy ,who missed his father, participated in the school dance team and started to identify with his own culture. The film shows the delicate and touching feelings between grandparents and grandchildren, but also the impact of the current society to the indigenous culture and the problem of intergenerational education. Most specially, this movie was filmed in the Orchid Island, where the Tao people lives, and the cast was composed of 99% local Tao people using native language to express the true appearance of their life story.

This film won 2019 Seattle International Film Festival SPECIAL JURY PRIZE; the little boy Chung Chia-chun from the Tao indigenous group also won Best Young Actor for his role in local feature “Long Time No Sea” at the Minsk International Film Festival Nov. 6 in Belarus, and the Awards of Best New Performer of 2018 Golden Horse Awards.

It is open to the public and free admission, but there are limited seats in this event, please RSVP to join this event through https://www.eventbrite.com/e/long-time-no-sea-movie-watching-and-post-screening-discussion-tickets-71296250003
